Description

Act I: At a wild court party, the Duke flirts with Count Ceprano's wife while Rigoletto attempts to get Monterone's daughter drunk.

Monterone berates Rigoletto for having ruined the innocence of his daughter.

Monterone curses the Duke and especially Rigoletto. In the 1500s a curse was taken very seriously as if it had magic powers.

Act II in Rigoletto's garden courtyard he sings to his daughter Gilda about his deep love for her deceased mother.
The Duke attempts to bribe the nanny Giovanna into tossing over the house keys  so he can seduce Gilda!
Giovanna beams with delight over her booty........and then agonizes over the lover's prolonged goodbye duet!
Act III. Rigoletto comforts Gilda as she explains her abduction.  He vows revenge while she pleads for forgiveness.
Act IV. Maddalena convinces her hit man brother, Sparafucile to kill the next victim who enters their house (which happens to be Gilda dressed as a boy!) instead of the Duke whom he was paid to kill.
Rigoletto uncovers his daughter from the sack and as she dies in his arms,  promises that she and her mother will pray for him from Heaven.
In shock he agonizes over how Monterone's curse has indeed come true.
